How to back up your Minecraft server world on Schokr

Protect your Minecraft world with Schokr backups, snapshots and downloads, and restore it after griefing or a bad update.

Updated · 2 min read

Back up your Minecraft world before updates, before installing big plugins or mods, and on a regular schedule. On Schokr you can use backups, snapshots, or download a copy to your own computer, and the safest plan uses more than one.

Your options

Snapshots

Each server has 3 snapshot slots. You can buy extra slots for 40 credits each, up to 30 per server, and turn on automatic daily snapshots for 5 credits per day. If your credits run out, automatic snapshots pause, but your server keeps running. Schokr One members get unlimited snapshots. See pricing.

Make a clean backup

Minecraft saves the world in the background. To make sure the backup includes the latest changes:

  1. In the console, run:
save-all flush
  1. Wait for the console to report that the game was saved.
  2. Create a backup or snapshot from your server's Backups or Snapshots section.

For the most consistent copy, stop the server, back up, then start it again. This matters most for large, busy servers.

What to include

The world folders are what matter most:

Server typeWorld folders
Paper, Spongeworld, world_nether, world_the_end
Vanilla, Forgeworld

Server-wide files worth keeping too: server.properties, ops.json, whitelist.json, banned-players.json, and your plugins or mods and config folders.

Automate it

Add a backup task to a schedule, after a save-all command. See scheduled restarts. Because backups per server are limited, delete old ones you no longer need so new ones can be created.

Keep an off-site copy

Every so often, download your world to your own computer. See download your world. This protects you even if you delete a server by accident.

Restoring

  1. Stop the server.
  2. Restore the backup or snapshot you want.
  3. Start the server and check the world.

Restoring replaces current files, so anything built after that backup is lost. If you only need to undo one player's griefing on Paper, a rollback plugin like CoreProtect is less destructive than a full restore.

Disk space

Backups and downloaded archives left on the server can use your disk pool (10 GB per team on the free package). Remove old archives from the file manager after downloading them.
