Can I run a Fabric or NeoForge server on Schokr?

Fabric and NeoForge are not among Schokr's listed Minecraft templates. See which templates exist and what to do if your mods or modpack need Fabric.

Fabric (and NeoForge) are not among Schokr's listed Minecraft Java templates. The listed templates are Paper, Forge, Vanilla, Sponge and BungeeCord. If your mods or modpack require Fabric, ask in the Schokr Discord for the current options before setting anything up.

Why the loader matters

Mods are built for one specific mod loader. A Fabric mod does not load on Forge, and a Forge mod does not load on Fabric. The server and every player must use the same loader, the same Minecraft version, and matching mods.

LoaderAvailable as an Schokr template?
ForgeYes
Paper (plugins, not mods)Yes
Sponge (Sponge plugins)Yes
VanillaYes

How to tell which loader you need

  • On CurseForge and Modrinth, each mod and modpack page lists its loaders (Forge, Fabric, NeoForge, Quilt).
  • In a modpack, the loader is shown on the pack's page and in the launcher profile.
  • Fabric mods usually require Fabric API as a dependency. If you see that, it is a Fabric mod.

Your options

1. Use a Forge version of the mods. Many popular mods are released for both Forge and Fabric. If every mod you want has a Forge build for your Minecraft version, use the Forge template. See how to install Forge mods.

2. Use Paper with plugins instead. If you only want server-side features (homes, protection, economy, minigames), Paper plugins can often replace server-side Fabric mods, and players can join with an unmodified client. See essential plugins for a new server.

3. Pick a Forge modpack. Many modpacks are made for Forge. Filter by loader on CurseForge or Modrinth. See how to install a modpack on a Forge server.

4. Ask in Discord. The team and community can tell you whether there is a supported way to run Fabric or NeoForge right now.

Client-side Fabric mods are fine

Players can still use Fabric on their own computer for client-only mods, such as performance or shader mods, when joining a Paper or Vanilla server, as long as the Minecraft version matches. Those mods only change the player's game. They do not work on a Forge server, because joining a Forge server with mods requires a Forge client.
