How to find your server address and connect on Schokr

Find your Schokr server's IP and port, share it with players, and fix the most common reasons people cannot connect.

Updated · 2 min read

Your server's address is its IP and port, shown on the server page and in the Network section. Players connect using <server-ip>:<port>.

Find your address

  1. Open your server in the console.
  2. Look for the server's address on the server page, or open the Network section to see its allocations.
  3. Copy the primary allocation. It looks like <server-ip>:<port>.

Connecting in common software

SoftwareHow to connect
Minecraft JavaMultiplayer, Add Server, paste <server-ip>:<port>
Source games (TF2, GMod, CS:GO)Open the developer console and run connect <server-ip>:<port>
RustPress F1 and run client.connect <server-ip>:<port>
TeamSpeak 3Connect, enter <server-ip>:<port> as the address
MumbleAdd Server, enter the IP and port in separate fields
A web appVisit http://<server-ip>:<port> in a browser

Always include the port. Without it, clients try their default port, which is usually not the one your server uses.

Using your own domain

Schokr does not provide domains, but you can point one you own at your server through your domain provider's DNS settings:

  1. Create an A record, such as play.example.com, pointing to your server's IP.
  2. Players can then connect with play.example.com:<port>.
  3. For Minecraft Java, you can also add an SRV record so players can leave out the port:
_minecraft._tcp.play.example.com. SRV 0 5 <port> play.example.com.

DNS changes can take a while to spread. The port in the SRV record must match your allocation.

Cannot connect?

  1. Is the server running? Check the console. It must finish starting.
  2. Is the port right? Compare the port you entered with the allocation in the Network section.
  3. Did the config change the port? For Minecraft, server-port in server.properties must match the allocation. Templates set it automatically, so do not change it by hand.
  4. Is the server listening on all interfaces? For apps, bind to 0.0.0.0, not localhost.
  5. Version mismatch: Minecraft clients must match the server version unless you use a plugin that supports multiple versions.
  6. Whitelist or password: check whether the server has a whitelist or join password enabled.
  7. Status issues: check status.schokr.gg for problems at your location.

Bots do not need an address

Discord bots connect outward to Discord, so nobody connects to them. You only need the address if the bot also runs a web server, such as a dashboard.
