How to join a Geyser server from Xbox, PlayStation or Switch

Console Bedrock players can't add custom servers directly. Here are the common workarounds: friends-list broadcasting and DNS redirect tools.

Updated · 2 min read

Minecraft on Xbox, PlayStation and Switch only shows the official featured servers, with no Add Server button. Console players can still join your Geyser server using one of two well-known workarounds: joining through a friend's Xbox account that broadcasts the server, or a DNS-based server list.

Option 1: join through the friends list (MCXboxBroadcast)

MCXboxBroadcast is a community extension for Geyser. It signs in to an Xbox account you create for the server and advertises your server as a joinable session. Console players add that account as a friend, then join from the Friends tab like they would join a friend's world.

How it works in practice:

  1. The server owner installs the MCXboxBroadcast extension into Geyser's extensions folder and restarts.
  2. On first start, it prints a Microsoft sign-in link and code in the console. Sign in with a spare Xbox account, not your personal one.
  3. Players add that Xbox account as a friend.
  4. In Minecraft, players open Play, then Friends, and join the session.

This works on all consoles because every Bedrock platform uses Xbox accounts for friends. Follow the setup instructions on the MCXboxBroadcast GitHub page, since options change between releases.

Option 2: DNS redirect (BedrockConnect)

BedrockConnect is a community project that redirects one of the featured servers to a server list where you can type any address and port.

  1. In the console's network settings, set the primary DNS to a BedrockConnect DNS server listed on the BedrockConnect GitHub page.
  2. Open Minecraft, go to Servers, and pick one of the featured servers.
  3. Instead of the featured server, a BedrockConnect menu opens. Choose to connect to a server and enter your Schokr server's address and Bedrock port.
  4. Optionally save it so it appears next time.

Things to know:

  • Changing DNS affects the whole console. If other games or apps misbehave, switch DNS back to automatic.
  • Public DNS servers are run by volunteers; availability can vary. Some people run their own BedrockConnect instance.
  • Featured server partners change over time, so which server redirects depends on the current BedrockConnect release.

Option 3: join a friend on PC or mobile

If a friend is on the server from Windows or mobile, a console player can sometimes join through them from the Friends tab, depending on platform and privacy settings. It is less reliable than the options above.

For a community server, MCXboxBroadcast is usually the nicer experience because players change nothing on their console.

Before you troubleshoot

Make sure PC or mobile Bedrock players can join first. If they cannot, the problem is the server setup, not the console. See fix "Unable to connect to world". Console players also need an active online subscription on PlayStation and Switch for online multiplayer.
