How to set up Geyser on a Paper server

Install the GeyserMC plugin on your Schokr Paper server, set the Bedrock port in config.yml, and let Bedrock players join your Java world.

Updated · 2 min read

To let Bedrock players join, upload the Spigot/Paper build of Geyser to your server's plugins folder, restart once to generate its config, set the Bedrock port, and restart again. The whole thing takes about five minutes.

Before you start

  • A Minecraft Java server created from the Paper template, already started once with the EULA accepted.
  • Your server running a current Minecraft Java version. Geyser targets the latest Java release; see Geyser version compatibility if you run an older one.

1. Download Geyser

Go to geysermc.org/download and download the Spigot build (it runs on Paper). The file is named like Geyser-Spigot.jar. While you are there, grab the Spigot build of Floodgate too; you will almost certainly want it.

2. Upload it

  1. Open your server in the Schokr console.
  2. Go to the file manager and open the plugins folder.
  3. Upload Geyser-Spigot.jar (and floodgate-spigot.jar if you have it).
  4. Restart the server from the console.

On startup you should see Geyser load in the console. It creates plugins/Geyser-Spigot/config.yml.

3. Set the Bedrock port

Open plugins/Geyser-Spigot/config.yml in the file manager and find the bedrock section:

bedrock:
  # Leave this as 0.0.0.0 so Geyser listens on all interfaces
  address: 0.0.0.0
  # The UDP port Bedrock players connect to
  port: 19132

Bedrock players can only reach a port that is assigned to your server. You have two options:

  • Use your server's own port. Java uses TCP and Bedrock uses UDP, so they can share the same number. Set port to your server's port, or set clone-remote-port: true if your config has that option.
  • Use an extra allocation. Add a second port in the Network section and set port to it. See add a port allocation for Geyser.

Leaving port: 19132 only works if 19132 happens to be a port assigned to your server, which usually it is not.

4. Restart and check the console

Restart the server. Geyser logs a line saying it started and which address and port it is listening on. If the port is wrong or already in use, you will see an error here instead.

5. Connect from Bedrock

In Bedrock, open Play, then the Servers tab, then Add Server. Enter your server's address (the same one Java players use, without the port) and the Bedrock port from step 3. Details are in connecting from Windows, iOS and Android.

Useful Geyser commands

Run these in the server console:

geyser version # shows your Geyser build and whether an update is out
geyser reload # reloads config.yml after edits
geyser list # lists connected Bedrock players
geyser dump # creates a debug report link you can share for support
