How to add an extra port for RCON, query or file transfers

Add another port allocation to your Schokr game server and point the game's RCON, query or file transfer setting at it.

Updated · 2 min read

To give your server another port, add a new allocation in the server's Network section, then put the new port number into the matching variable in your Startup settings and restart. Each server includes one allocation; extras cost 25 credits each, or are unlimited with Schokr One.

When you need an extra port

You need more than one port when a game uses separate ports for different jobs. Common cases:

  • Rust: RCON port for remote admin tools, and the Rust+ companion app port.
  • ARK: Survival Evolved: query port for the server browser and RCON port.
  • TeamSpeak 3: file transfer port for uploads, downloads and avatars, and the ServerQuery port.
  • Source games (CS:GO, TF2, Garry's Mod): only for SourceTV or GOTV. RCON already shares the game port.

Check which ports each template uses if you're unsure.

Adding the allocation

  1. Open your server in the Schokr console.
  2. Go to the Network section.
  3. Add a new allocation. If you don't have Schokr One, this uses 25 credits from your team's balance.
  4. Note the port number you were given. It is chosen for you, so it probably won't match the game's default.

You need a linked Discord account to spend credits. If your team has no credits, you can earn them through the daily reward, AFK earnings or referrals.

Telling the game to use it

A new allocation doesn't do anything until the game listens on it.

  1. Open your server's Startup settings.
  2. Find the variable for the port you want, for example the RCON port, query port or file transfer port. Variable names differ by template.
  3. Enter the exact port number from your new allocation.
  4. Restart the server.

Some games also read ports from a config file. If the game has the same setting in its config file and in a startup variable, keep them matching.

Checking that it works

  • Watch the console during startup. Many games print the ports they bind, for example Rust logs its RCON port and TeamSpeak logs its file transfer port.
  • Test the feature: connect your RCON tool, look for the server in the browser, or upload a file in TeamSpeak.
  • If the console shows an "address already in use" or bind error, the port in your variable doesn't match an allocation that belongs to this server. Copy the number again from the Network section.

Things to keep in mind

  • Ports belong to one server. You can't share an allocation between two servers.
  • You can't choose a specific number, so tell your players to use the port shown in the console, not the game's default.
  • Removing an allocation that a game is still configured to use will stop that feature working until you update the variable.

Still stuck?

Post the relevant console lines in the Schokr Discord and someone can help you match the port to the right variable.
